Despite Malaysia’s universal health coverage, many underserved communities still lack access to essential services like healthcare and education. Children are particularly vulnerable, often suffering from malnutrition, skin infections, and other untreated illnesses due to poor living conditions and limited resources.
Since March 2023, Mei Yee has led a team of volunteers to bridge these gaps through the Sunset Clinic. Operating as a pop-up outreach clinic near Pulau Bum Bum in Semporna, it provides basic healthcare services to underserved communities. Over six outreach programs on 3 to 4 months interval, the clinic has treated more than 500 patients, offering care to children, adults, and the elderly. Thanks to the collaboration with Dentistry for the Needy Sabah, the clinic also provided much-needed dental care to the community.
This initiative has been supported by partnerships with Kembara Kitchen, Alpro Foundation , Sunlight Pharmacy and generous donors. While the program faces challenges such as logistical hurdles and resource limitations, the clinic has made a significant impact by addressing immediate medical needs and promoting preventive care.
With continued support and collaboration, we aspire to contribute toward a more inclusive and equitable healthcare system.
